Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership & Management
RATIONALE
The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management seeks to develop capacity in management and leadership in education. This one-year postgraduate diploma is designed
to prepare education professionals for managerial roles within the education sector, by improving the practice of management and leadership in the education sector. The programme is designed
to serve those working in or with schools and early childhood centres, who hold either formal or informal leadership positions including senior teachers, heads of department,
members of senior management teams, schoolheads principals, professional developers and Ministry officials.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management will enable learners with an education background to develop integrated, functional and reflective competencies in
educational management by examining issues such as school administration, educational leadership, strategic management in education, supervision and instruction, accounting and financial management and human resources administration in education. The programme is designed to develop the knowledge and skills that aspiring and current educational leaders need to meet the challenge of offering high quality and equitable learning opportunities to all children and young people. It is suitable for current and aspiring leaders in all education sectors and agencies who do not want to commit to a full Master’s Degree programme but want to further their careers and advance their knowledge of educational leadership and management by exploring issues highlighted above.
The programme includes compulsory courses in educational leadership and research, financial management, educational policy, organisation and human resources management. These are
key elements which are not emphasized in programmes offered either at Diploma or Degree programmes in the Colleges of Education or University Degrees in teacher education. Understandably so, as the main focus would be pedagogy, education psychology, philosophy and teaching practice. People management is now very crucial to the development of community schools. The numbers of teachers per school are also increasing with the drive to increase primary and secondary enrolment.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
Twelve months (1 Year)
