Bachelor of Education in Mathematics
RATIONALE
Mathematics, as a discipline, is a major and compulsory part of school curricula at all levels of education in Botswana. This requirement makes it mandatory for all tertiary institutions in the country to partner with Government in improving the quality and quantity of those equipped to teach the subject. As an example, teachers in both primary and secondary schools have a huge responsibility of facilitating the learning of fundamental mathematical concepts, principles and development of positive attitudes toward the subject. Therefore, teachers must themselves learn and acquire requisite knowledge and skills to enable them cope with demands and expectations of the real world. In order to achieve this, future mathematics teachers need to go through a robust programme that is rich in pedagogical content. The B.Ed. Mathematics programme proposed by BA ISAGO University is envisaged to meet the immediate needs of as regards skills and
competence of mathematics teachers in the country.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1.1 Candidates must have obtained at least five (5) Credits at BGCSE
(or equivalent) including a pass in English language and at least
a credit in mathematics at BGCSE or equivalent qualification. OR
1.2 Candidates who have completed a relevant Diploma in Primary
or Secondary Education in Mathematics from tertiary teacher
education institutions or its equivalent may join the programme at
year 2 and year 3 respectively. OR
1.3 Special Entry: Candidates who do not have the minimum
academic qualifications stated above but have a minimum of three
years relevant work experience will be considered upon satisfying
the requirements of the Academic Affairs Board. Recognition
of Prior Learning Policy (RPL) will be used as an instrument for
further assessment of mature- age entry candidates.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The Degree programme will run over a duration of 48 months (4 years) for fulltime learners (eight semesters in forty-eight months, consisting of six months each), sixty months (5 years) for part-time learners and 2 or 3 years for block release students with Diplomas
